Whether you are a band teacher, a professional musician, or a beginner, there is a place for you in the Kingsport Community Band.

Making Music Together Is What We're About

We are a COMMUNITY band.  That means all instrument-playing members of the greater Kingsport area (or even beyond) are welcome to participate. Our members include current and former band directors, people who majored in music in college, people who played in middle or high school band (often MANY years ago), and even a few adults who picked up an instrument for the first time well into adulthood.  Whatever your background, you are welcome to participate in the Kingsport Community Band.  If the music seems too difficult at first, start by just "playing the white notes."  You will gain ability and confidence as you participate.  If you are a very capable instrumentalist, play your heart out and make us sound good.  Together, you and we will sound awesome!

A Tale of Two KCB Members:

Michael (trombone)

A native of Philadelphia, retired music teacher, and seasoned, expert performer in a community band in Ireland, Michael retired to Kingsport and has been a boon to the Kingsport Community Band.  He has even founded a regional "trombone collective" of local players who meet regularly and learn from each other by playing more demanding pieces.

Wendy (horn)

Wendy played trumpet through high school and did not continue with music as an adult. A couple decades later, she heard about the Kingsport Community Band at a time when we had plenty of trumpets, but only one horn. She found a horn for sale, cheap, and started with the band a week later, while still learning the basics of playing the instrument.
